I don't know if I should help are turkeys the same as chicken eggs as far as wait at least 24 hours to hatch before helping............can the humidity be too high it says 84% right now but usually low 80s....not moving much lately but it had its beak out earlier.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

To be honest I don't have any experience with turkey eggs. 84% humidity just seems to me to be too high, I could be wrong

How long has it been since it piped?

I dont know if it ever pipped I just see a hole last nite when I got home and it beak was poking in and out....the humidity goes between 80%-85%. It has been 24 hours now though.

Only one egg in there.

If they have pipped, I hear chirping and I know its been more then about 10 hours I'm all about hands on help! I start at the pip hole and pretty quick you can get a feel if the egg is too dry or moist, and if the chick is active or not. I know some folks feel that if they are not strong enough to make it out on their own to let mother nature claim them. Im all for giving them a very gentle helping hand, esp. using still air incubators and have saved more then I care to admit.

I usually help my turkeys out by CAREFULLY breaky away a little of the shell as if he had zipped it himself. I start with only about 1/4 of a side and then wait. If he still hasnt freed himself any more at all within 4 to 5 hrs I will break away about 3/4 of the shell. Then I wait another 3 to 4 hrs. If he still not made any progress I will go ahead and take of the top for him but DO NOT dump him out of the shell, he will then be able to make it out on his own. If you dont have the heart to kull new born chicks then by all means do not do this. The reason why is because some times there is a good reason they cant make it out own their own.(And sometimes they just need a helping hand) Leg probblems is the most common problem I have found in turkeys. I would have to say about 80% of the turkeys that I help out end up doing just fine but there is still the change that you may have to kull them for their own good as they will never be able to have any kind of a quality life due to thier defects.

So Sorry!

You really need to low your humidity. I never raise my humidity more than 60% on turkeys. It seems to work out best for me. ANd I never incubate anything else except turkeys with turkeys.

Thank you! Just a bummer cause it was the only fertile egg I had from the turkeys. If I ever get some eggs to lay from the 2 hens I have I will try again....not sure why they are not laying.

Why do all turkey eggs need to be helped verses chickens don't all....are the turkeys weaker generally?

Can the humidity being to high drowned them that is what I heard....I heard to have it 50% to 80% during hatching what about while incubating is the turkeys and chickens humidity different during both also is that why you don't do together? So it was not to much off the high end. I am not so sure the humidity was the problem or only problem...I think that maybe it was longer then 24 hours by the other posters response. So before they have their beak out they already pipped the inside of the shell and that is ten hours into the 24 what is your experience with that.

If I do have a mix next time I am gonna have a separate incubator for hatching with no turner in it....why would it make a difference otherwise incubating together or is that the reason.
