Ive been keeping turkeys and chickens together for ages. Never had an issue with blackhead.
but today weve got a turkey poult about 8 weeks old who will not get up or eat or drink. He has sulphurous yellow diahreah.
and we also have 3 eastereggers displaying the same symptoms.
there are no vets within hours of us who see birds. Which makes no sense to me since its a rural area...but thats beside the point.
weve syringe fed them a teaspoon of cayenne and salt and sugar dissolved in half a cup of water each. And was able to get the turkey to eat some eggs by prying his mouth open and ge then swallowed. Syringe feeding was not fun.
ive told my hubby to buy some fish zole . Anyone ever come back from this?

Not every sick turkey kept with chickens has blackhead, chickens don't come down with it, they are carriers, so if your chickens have it it's not blackhead. Blackhead causes dark foamy droppings, and their heads darken. Not sure what they have as their are a lot of diseases that cause diarrhea, I personally would give supportive therapy, and hope they can make it. I don't take my birds to a vet either, it seems that poultry are either healthy or dead, anytime I tried to help they died anyways, sorry not much help

No, im aware that not every sickness is blackhead. The symptoms are consistent with blackhead, so I am assuming. Im not sure about the black frothy stool. Ive never read that. That isnt a symptom of blackhead, its the yellow diahreah, and weight loss, lethargy and ruffled feathers.
Chickens can and do get it also. But sre typically able to fight it off easily, or are asymptomatic.
either way......the chickens look better, and the turkeys poop has returned to normal after just one massive dose of cayenne pepper and fish zole! Wow!
Hes still looking droopy and sick , but this is an improvement. Perhaps hell make it to slaughter after all! Fingers crossed.
