I think my chickens are killing each other

Do you seal it up EVERY NIGHT? The coop, I mean?

1) What type of bird , age and weight.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
^^Fill this out

The birds appear healthy and the poops are normal. The run and coop are sealed at all times, see my photo. They eat normally and show no signs of stress. Having had predator issues at my former farm, I built this setup to be bulletproof.

Do you have an Eggloo, omlett thinggy, for a coop ?

Chcikens tear each other up in these things !!

we get posters all the time with problems like this on our forum,...

Sorry !!

Wait! New members Can't post pictures anymore because of the recent Spammer attack! Sorry. We'll have to use your description.

I uploaded photos. I do not have an Eggloo. I have a 4x6 coop from Agway with two windows, five nesting boxes. If you go to this link: http://www.horizonstructures.com/coop.asp and view the red with white trim, that is what I have. The run is attached and is 4x8 and 7 feet high with a 4 foot roost outside. I have a six foot roost inside. My husband said there is no way a predator can get in. There are no animal tracks near it, nor is the snow on the roof disturbed. We have eighteen inches on the ground now. Help.

It's a predator getting in. There is no other option. Chickens do not disembowel each other from being crowded.

They will peck and fight, but not that fast.

I just want to add that if your roo had blood on it.it was probably trying to protect the hens.........
Did I read correctly that you ususally lock them in the coop at night.
If so, this could be a problem...We lock the coop no matter what the weather is every night.
We didn't.just one time and paid a price for it.
If it is an owl.the likely would not be tracks and it would disbowel them.
I have had chickens for years and never had them kill or even seriously hurt each other.
The hen that they are pecking at.if she is showing red from the sore..blood..
They will go after that spot because of the color red..spray with blue coat or seperate her until she is healed.
Good Luck..I am sorry for your loss..............
