I think my duckling hate me

I got 3 duckling they are about 31/2 weeks old. I was holding one of them it sqarmed a little so I went to put it down it hiss at me.. Is that normal? I am kinda new to ducks. The only other duck I had my dad got me when I was 2 .

How long have you had these ducklings?

Yes it's typical for ducklings to run away if they are not socialized with humans a lot. Sometimes different breed have different temperaments that determine how long it takes to tame them but it can be done. It just takes a lot of patience and the tenacity to work and hold them each day.

yes my ducks are almost 6 weeks old. they are indian runners and i spent countless hours with them from day one. i did get and still occasionally get hissed at but almost never now. they still show signs that im a stranger at times but i know they love me. they come running when they see me unles they are in the pond then they make sure i have food before getting out.

I swear mine never liked me until they became adults. They would scream bloody murder if you picked them up and they ran away from any human being. As they got older they got better and better. Now they just turned one and I trip over them. If I go in the pen I have ducks swarming my feet. However they still do not want to be touched or held. They are quite happy to stand on my feet and nibble on my clothes or grab my hair, but I don't get to touch them.

They will follow me around the yard and stay within a 20 foot radius of me while they forage. If I leave they will either follow or graze their way over to me.

The other day I swear Duck Vader tripped me on purpose just so that I would spill the bag of meal worms I was holding. She came out of nowhere and I did a dramatic dance to not step on her and the worms went flying. She then dove for the bag and started gorging herself while I scrambled to get her head out of it and pick it up.

Ducks don't generally like to be held or petted, but it does help alot if you have them right from hatch. Much more likely to bond with you and see you as "mom". Since yours are older though, you'll have to work alot more to earn their trust. Just sit with them and give them treats, let them come up to you without making any moves towards them. I wouldn't try holding them as they can see that as a very negative thing and will stay away from you more. It might be a long, slow process but they should warm up to you after awhile. Taking treats from your hand will possibly be the only physical contact they will be ok with. Just keep the treats coming and they will love you!

I hatch them 2/18/15. one is indian runner and the other 2 are K C. I hold them at least few times a day and when I leave the room they make all kinda of noise. Today they where better of me holding them except the one that hiss at me.

That's what my chickens do to me all the time. If i bring them a treat they will knock out of my hands. Thank you! You gave me hope that they will get better as they get older.

I have 2 fawn & white runners (hens). They r 11 momths old. They follow me, come when i call them. The larger one (Miss Boo) is more confident, i can pick her up, she nibbles me all over when i make their bed each afternoon, she tells me all about her day & where she has been & she also wants to help me make her bed/nest. My other fawn runner ( Miss Peek'n) is more cautious, I can pick her up if she has to scoot by me to get her dinner, & i can catch her, outside on our property, bc i am faster. I love my runners & they like me, i give them what they like, food.
We dig for worms together, this is a very good bonding time, and it gets them use to being close to me, w/a shovel (the monster shovel). They r use to t/shovel now, bc /it means WORMS!! Ya!
