i think my hen has ILT help?

so the they chicken with eye that was infected and swelled shut is doing much better with the exception of the stretching neck out. her eyes look much better and now she can keep it open. weve been using terramycin in there eyes feeding them bounce back so they get plenty of electrolytes

The use of antibiotics on this site has really gotten to the point that people use it as a cure all. You know that this is NOT the answer. I have come over to the thinking that speckled hen takes. Antibiotics are NOT the answer. diagnosing a disease is SOOO very hard. I am still doing this in my flock and I still do not have a definative answer.

I got a very stern tongue lashing by a local vet here in this small town. He seems to think that people need to STOP using antibiotics ALL together, Cull thier sick birds and if necessary start over again. Pretty strong words from a country vet.

what is worse yet, there is no spell checker on this site !!

so it sure would be great if you guys would actually help instread of argue on whether or not to use antibiotics and stop threadjacking. i really dont want yall to take it the wrong way im just looking for help

I agree with a vet, for once, LOL. Ray, the point is that we are not vets, we cannot tell you for sure what your hen has, and even with antibiotics helping the symptoms of the disease and keeping away secondary bacterial infections when they have a virus, those antibiotics will not cure the disease. Bird diseases are not the same as mammal diseases. They can remain carriers of that disease for the rest of their lives. For this reason, I will never treat respiratory illnesses if they crop up. That is MY choice; I hesitate to give antibiotic dosages for which I am not familiar or say, yes, you can put her back with the flock if she seems well. And no matter what anyone here will tell you, you are gambling with the flock every time a seemingly recovered bird is put back with the others. Unless testing is done to determine exactly what the disease is, no one can tell you anything for sure.
We want to help, but I do not want to diagnose a disease for someone over the net. I can only say, it sounds like it could be this OR, no, those symptoms are not usual with a certain disease.​

Take your bird to a vet or call the State and get a swab done so they can test for ILT.
