I think my hen is a rooster!

I haven't heard anything like a crow yet but I will keep listening! The bird is gorgeous and does seem to be a little bossier than the rest.

The roo in my avatar pic is about the same age. How long has it had a red comb and wattles? When a hen is about to lay, it's comb and wattles will turn red.

I just really started questioning it about a week and a half ago. They all have a small comb but this one's is bigger and the others don't have much in the way of wattles. I haven't had any eggs at all yet from any of them. A friend told me I probably wouldn't until September, 20 weeks or so.

If your chicken is making a Cocodoodledoo sound in the morning or ever so often then yeah and if he/she is very protective over the others then it is deffo a Rooster!

Maybe he will be a quiet crower! Should his diet be any different from the girls?

I just finished doing some research on this feeding question. As you can tell, I'm a newbie, so take my info with a grain of salt. But, the consensus seems to be you can feed your rooster same as the rest of your flock. Hopefully, you aren't feeding your girls layer yet, but it seems they can also eat layer (the roosters, not the young chickens) Here's a link I found, again, not from my experience, so you might want to do your own research.

Hope this helps.

I want to attach a picture so you folks can tell me if I'm right but I haven't figured out how!
Unless you are positive that it is crowing I would hang onto it. We sell your pullets and for a while if someone thought that they got a rooster we would take them back and replace it..........after thanking 10-12 "roosters" back we ended up with a bunch of very good laying hens!!! Hens can also be very loud. If you want to click on this link and you can hear the noise that my broody hen makes.
If you read the books, many times they will give you description of roosters that are just not accurate for some breeds.
