I bought two females from a guy last year. He said they are used to using the same nest and they lay eggs at the same time. Just found out that one of them is a male. Had two females them suddenly a male and female. You never know for sure....lol

I would not be too worried about it if I were you. We've raised geese for years and only the africans are willing to drop and get dirty right in front of us. I never see our embdens or american buffs breed though we get goslings every year. If they're a pair odds are they're doing it, but just when you not looking, and unless you watch them 24/7 how would you know?

Hi Redhen! Guess what? His grandma (who is a super early layer) just laid her first egg today, and his mama has been laying since Feb., but the eggs have only showed fertility since two weeks ago. The 2009's (one is your geese's bro) have yet to figure out how to breed! This is an odd year-be patient. There is a lot of breeding activity (in my experience) at dawns early light-which we never see! They fool around a lot the rest of the day, and wear themselves out. PM me if you want! I can keep you posted on their relatives progress!

April was sooo cute yesterday..she was makiing a nest in our garden...tossing leaves all around herself... and sitting and sitting... and he was just hanging out by her side... being a patient man and watching out for her safety.

And then finally she laid her egg...

I havent checked it yet to see if its fertile... we will tonight..
What color babies will they throw?? Greys/blues?

also..how often should she be laying?? just so i know what to watch for...

If you let her set her own eggs she will stop at 7-9 eggs, one every other day or so, and start to incubate them. I would not let her nest outside unless she's in a pen and the nest has some shelter. Some people have luck moving the nest if an egg is left in it. No telling how many she'll lay her first year, if you take some (I always leave one as not to discourage the goose),she could lay up to 25. In your case, the babies can be any combo of blues and grays. You can have a possible throwback to a white or splash-I haven't had any of those yet from dark parents. Good luck and keep me posted!

Hi! Yeah, i wish she wouldnt lay outside!! I'm going to try to keep her locked in her house till later in the day...see if that works..
And i believe the eggs were fertile! I only checked one though...but it had the bullseye..

I think i'll marke one egg and put that inside her house...so she'll get the idea that this is where her nest is going to be....
I may put a few in the incubator...
