Hi, I’m new to BYC, and I need help for one of my turkeys. She’s a broad breasted white female, about 4 months old, and has a bad leg injury. Her leg is twisted and seems to be pushed one notch down to where it’s supposed to be. Also, her claws are curled kind of. This makes my turkey lay on her side all the time, and it’s caused one of her wings to start to deform from laying on it. She can still move around, but she’s isolated from my other chickens and turkeys. The condition started about late May, and I hope that there’s a solution. I’ve tried finding solutions, but they were unrelated or nonexistent. If you can help, thank you so much.

I am not really familiar with turkeys, but a slipped tendon with a bird is the same no mater what type it is. You want to feel on the both sides of the hock joint, and you should feel the tendon there if it is slipped. The joint is usually swollen as well.

If it is a slipped tendon, there is unlikely anything you can do at this point. Here is info on treating a slipped tendon. It talks about chickens but it will be the same. Again it may be too late if it is a slipped tendon.

Hopefully someone else with turkeys can go over other possibilities

Thanks, what I actually realized is that there is no dislocation or twisting after all. It’s just that the tendon in the hock that keeps the feet where it should can’t pull it correctly. So, it’s essentially like it’s 90/180 degrees rotated from where it should be, if you think of the hock as a mechanical joint. I’m going to try fixing it or at least feeling around for the next few days and I’ll update the post if anything happens. I’m aware it may be permanent now, but I’m still going to hope and try my very best. Thank you.
