When we went down to the coup yesterday morning our oldest chicken (5-6 years old), was laying on the ground. This particular girl has been sick more than the others we've had. This time, her comb and waddle are bright and vibrant, she is drinking water and eating and pooping. But she just won't get up. It's as if her legs are asleep. We have her separated from the flock right now.

Anyone ever had this happen before? Ideas of what to do? I can't afford a vet visit for a 6 year old hen...I'm ashamed to say.

I have no experience checking for stuck eggs, but that's something I might do. Hopefully someone more familiar with it will give some advice.

Hmm it does sound like a leg paralysis now I am defiantly not and expert but it might be the starting of vitamin deficiency but maybe not... has she been lethargic at all? I know when some of my chickens got vitamin deficiency the first thing to go was there legs and they would just sit there at the beginning and would eat and drink. As I said before I am not an expert but I'm always trying to help :)
