I think she laid her first egg!!* New pics page 2 *

A few days ago I moved my goose's nest from the duck/chicken pen to another part of the yard so she wouldn't eat the chicks when they came in. I moved her egg and gave her some of the same shavings as we have in the pen, and she's been laying there now. I'm not sure if this would be any good with long distances, but maybe it'll help you.

Here she is :

Your geese are beautiful! Based on the size of your goose's knob, I would say I am 90% sure mine is a female.

I am so glad. Now we can wait for eggs together! Although, she could lay them in or near the pond while she is free ranging. She might have already for all I know.

I wouldn't really call that an egg pouch, they are usually very big, almost dragging the ground. I'd say she is probably getting ready to lay though I doubt she has already.

All my Sebastopols have that lump under them like that... Even the males.... So I'm not thinking that says boy or girl... Am I wrong?

Nope - My boys have a "pouch" too but its nothing like this one. She has always had a smooth underbelly with a slight lump where as the males grew into their "treat bellies" as I like to call them. She only recently got the sag. Its like extra skin thats bunching up down there. Goon news for me if she HASNT laid yet then! Means i might still have a chance to get a first egg!

But then whats up with all the weird behavior? She only rarely comes back from the pond anymore, prefering to stay on its bank and watch the boys come for treats, and then they boyus are like weirdos sprinting back and forth across the yard and when they do all come together the boys are super low necks to the ground dont - get - near- my girl attitudes. DOes this just mean they all know its coming or that its already here?

Also - ive only seen the really big egg pouches on older girls. This is her first year so I dont think it would be that pronounced, would it? SHe is still very young in goose age and has nice young skin ( lol ) thats more likely to spring back a little even after being stretched. My ducks never had large egg pounches till their 3rd or 4th laying season, depending on the breed.

And Also - She is DEFINANTLY female, lol, and the other two are definantly boys. No questions asked, lol
