I think there's some brahma in the wood pile! Thoughts on breed/ purity

Here's my little dude! How often does a Cochin show combs other than straight? All of his offspring have straight combs, but he's got a pea-ish comb. What are your thoughts?

Cochins always have single combs.
He's cool looking but not pure cochin.

Yeah, figured so. There is so much cross breeding, then breeding back to the standard to get colors or other traits of other breeds into a different breed and sometimes odd genes pop through now and again. I think there is something with silkie combs as a vague example. It is weird that we bred him to a very good silkie and he sired a rooster that has a straight comb and neither of the parents had them.

He's got a really interesting color pattern and apart from the comb and wattles, really does look like a bantam Cochin. The comb looks like there are breeds with both pea and rose combs in its ancestry. Or maybe he has some silkie in him. Cool rooster!

That's the most important part for most of us. He looks very happy and healthy, too.

It means that both your mystery cock and the Silkie carry the dominant gene for pea and rose combs and the recessive gene for single combs.

That's the most important part for most of us. He looks very happy and healthy, too.

I'd hope so, he gets to spend most of his time inside with my wife and gets fed everything that we eat and has his picks over any of the girls!

That's why I think he has a bit'o bantam brahma, or the like, mixed in with his predominantly Cochin body
