The comb, skin and leg color are the main things. Actually, even though the color pattern of golden Campines and Buttercups looks similar in the females, it is quite different from a genetic stand point. Campines have horizontal penciling, whereas Buttercups have a form of spangling in which the spangles are elongated and broken up. If you look at the buttercup plumage closely you will see that the black markings are not solid through the breadth of the feather, but tiny, rounded spangles. Campines have solid bars all the way through. Gold penciled Hamburg females have a pattern more similar to golden Campines than Buttercups do.What is the difference between a Buttercup and a Campine???
