i think this is to pricey for a chick

The most I've even paid for a chick is $30 for a porcelain silkie. I don't know what price Barnevelder's bring.

some breeds i can understand but this one i cant due to the fact that i can buy them from hatcheries :-/ (and i am really betting thats were their stock came from)

They spend a lot of money with importing and they don't do it as a charity.

Price is set by the free market and if they could not sell chicks for that much they wouldn't. Since they do, it is obvious that they have buyers at that price range.

If it is too much for you, don't buy any of them.

I wasn't meaning to imply those sellers are bad people or anything. Or trying to make huge amounts of money with little overhead. I was using it more to point out that perhaps the other ad I saw for $300 hatching eggs wasn't as far fetched as I thought it was. I didn't realize the color variety was worth so much. I would never pay $300 for 6 hatching eggs or $199/chick, but there is obviously some people out there who would. I meant no offense by my comment. Sorry if it was taken that way.

i didnt take in offence just stating on why their babies are so high in price. these here if they sell at 25 a chick i will be surprised as everyone i know that has chickens around mainly gets theirs from hatcheries i prefer getting mine from breeders

Ha! Me too. I have two birds I bought as laying hens from someone who had like 25-30, 20 week pullets for $3 a piece, but the rest of my birds are from local breeders and I have paid $10-$30 per bird based on age and breed of bird. The most expensive was a show quality silkie pullet who was 4 months old, and I feel like she was worth it. (And she won 1st place at the local fair!) Hatcheries have their place, but because we actually show, I prefer to buy from breeders.
