Some of you recall Indy, the older brother of Rex, my avatar. They were both out of my huge Stukel BR hen, Ida, and Isaac, my Delaware rooster. Indy was surpassing his dad in size when dad got in a lucky shot and killed him. I was heartbroken. Indy's barring was spectacular for a cross.

This little guy is just over 3 weeks old. He's out of one of the Blue Rock hens with Rex as his sire, so Ida is his grandmother. In the first photo, he's on the right, and all the other chicks are his same day hatchmates. Check out the size of that leg that's showing-I did a close up of that photo. I need better close up photos of him, but it's been a mad house in that bantam coop with two groups of chicks ten days apart and five broodies raising them all, so he's a tad skittish. He does have a nice looking comb developing and you can see the promise of a huge rooster. He will not have Indy's wonderful barring by any means but I think the size may be there.

For those who don't remember, this is the late Indy. Shame we couldn't see him develop further. He was already surpassing Isaac in size.

You are so sweet, thank you! I'm not sure I'll be keeping any of these, but you never know. I intended for Indy to be my new flock leader with Rex next in line and that didn't pan out, so who knows what will happen around this place. There is a sweet elderly lady up in KY, a neighbor of Cetawin's, who may get most of the babies that hatch here prior to April, if she wants them. She loves my birds, but she already owns one of Isaac's sons so not sure how many more males she would like to have at her place.

That chick sure has some big stumps for legs, that is for sure!

Looks like he has an attitude as well, the way he seems to be already watching over his sibling flock!

His fast maturity and growth is confusing me on the others with him, though. Compared to him, the other four all look girly, though they didn't feather out as fast as I would have thought if they were all pullets. I'm pretty sure that Raven's chick that looks like a BR pullet probably is a pullet and this solid black one below with the long tail is a pullet, but the blue one and the Dellie colored one? Dunno, really. I'd guess the blue barred is male, but has no comb at all still at going on 4 weeks of age.
