I think We Have Another Indy-Check Out Gargantua-Chick

The two groups are now mingling, sometimes to their mothers' consternation. They try to keep them separate, but they don't even fit under the mamas anymore, so it's a lost cause. The oldest five are 4 weeks old today and the others are 10 days behind.

That little T-Rex's comb really stands out in there, doesn't it?

This one is Raven's barred chick, 4 weeks old today. I'd say pullet with no comb. Finally, she's growing a tail.

Wow they are growing fast! Seems like they just hatched yesterday!

I know! My 6th broody D'Anver had one egg, this time a D'Anver egg, and it was supposed to hatch Saturday, meaning that today is Day 17. The chick is already in the air cell and cheeping up a storm! The reason I candled it was that Aimee got confused and sat in the nest next to hers on an egg someone laid today, leaving her Day 17 egg to cool way down. I was shocked to see the chick already up in there. This is way earlier than usual, even for the D'anvers, who normally are in the air cell and pipped on Day 19 and hatch on Day 20. I'm going to move Aimee out of that chaotic coop with her bantam chick till it has a good grip on life.

Adding pics, first of the newly hatched porcelain d'anver, only bantam in that group of 10 chicks.

Older Hoodlums

Pullet on Left, T-Rex/ Ty on Right. That boy will probably get a real name some day from his new owner.

I think these are both pullets. The one on the right, tentatively named Robin, hatched March 3 and little Wren hatched five days later. Of course, names are dependent on them being pullets.

Little Wren's mother, Raven.

This Dellie colored (well, sort of-looks almost mottled) is out of my Splash Rock and one of the cockerels, not sure which one. At over 4 weeks old, I'm sure it's a pullet. In fact, I think I have 5 or 6 pullets out of the 9 chicks, though sometimes, the ones out of the Blue Rocks can pop up a pink comb suddenly out of nowhere.

This video clip of the chicks shows her at the end. Sorry, not the best quality. I really need a new camera, I swear.

Blue barred cockerel anyone? Just put up an ad for the extras, plus one of the black pullets if someone wants a pair (and she'll be a big girl, from the looks of it)

I have two of these in slightly different shades of blue, though this is the older one. This guy is 5 weeks old, as is T-Rex below, but the blues don't have the early big combs that the regular black barred tend to have. Makes them harder to sex as quickly. I do have a blue barred pullet, but she is spoken for already.

Black barred pullet with blue barred brother.

The ice blue male.. I'm half a mind to keep this one, he's so gorgeous.

And this little T-Rex is 3/4 Plymouth Rock, 1/4 Delaware (though 1/2 is blue Rock and 1/4 is BR) He still towers over the others. Nice comb he's going to have and I think he'll have those gorgeous silvery hackles of his dad, Rex.

The kids are growing by leaps and bounds. Tyrannosaurus Rex is still head and shoulders above the rest of the pack. The ice blue cockerel is sweet and friendly and I swear, I may have to keep that one.

Meet the Iceman, aka, Kazanski from Top Gun, aka Kaz

And this friendly, calm and adorable pair is being raised by my EE hen, Maretta. Since I have an Iceman, I must have a Maverick, right? Meet Maverick and Wren.

Someone HELP! I'm falling head over heels for this Blue Rock cockerel and I really do NOT need another rooster here at this point in time. This is Iceman. Oh, my, he's the most glorious shade of ice blue with edging on his feathers, appears he'll have a perfect 5 point comb, nice yellow legs and oh, dear, he's friendly, calm and seems intelligent. The calm part is amazing, considering he's being raised in the D'Anver coop amidst chaos with his 8 siblings and all the adult hubbub that goes on in there. He is out of Rex with my darker Blue Rock, Neela.

Others in the group, all in need of homes except for the mottled looking white pullet and the blue pullet.

Thought I'd update you on Tyrannosaurus Rex. He's about 8 weeks old, or will be at the beginning of the week, if memory serves. He towers above the others still. The barred blue cockerel in the first photo is the same age-wonder what he saw out the window?
