I thought guns were banned in England??

You are looking at one large central London hospital in this series. Of course there are knife wounds. There has always been and always will be an element of society, mostly young unemployed men, who carry knives. Do you really think this is a true reflection of any society. I mean are they going to show you the patients who turn up to A and E with a slipped disc or a cut thumb, which makes up most of the patients (actually I think there more drunks than anything else). This doesn't make good television. Speaking as one who has worked in A and E I can reassure you that gun and knife crime is still relatively rare.

Oh, they do show all the other type cases as well. Like the car accidents... diabetics,..head injuries...
I was just wondering where all the gunshot wounds were coming from because I had "thought" that guns were banned in England. So the show made me wonder if they were REALLY banned or not..
And I guess from what you all are saying they are...that's all...

Couldn't disagree more Chickened. The Government of UK is a Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition not Socialist. No rights have been given away, since the citizens did not have those rights to start with. (I am assuming we are talking about the right to own hand guns.) You make welfare sound like a dirty word and I know in US it means living on benefits. Here it has a completely different meaning. A welfare state is one where the well being of the citizens is provided for by the regular collection of taxes which can then be used to support those going through hardship. Others were also involved in WW2, I don't believe they feel that all they fought for has been squandered away by a frivolous society and a deceitful government.

By taking up taxes to help others you are indeed socialist. People who live on welfare in America are in a hardship just as much as the ones in England.

England is one of the places that I reeeally want to visit someday...
I'm dying to see the old castles the kings lived in and stuff like that..

When an animal is raised in a cage with no freedom it needs welfare as you define it. An animal born free needs no welfare when given the rights needed to do so.

A big reason for natural born American citizenship law.

Ever hear of a man named Neville Chamberlain?

How much is 140 pounds in American money??
Just wondering... Watching the show again tonight..
A guy came in to the ER after a having a "routine health scan",.. and they found a big aortic aneurysm...
The doc asked how much he paid for the exam.. and then said, "Best 140 pounds you ever spent, huh?
Just wondering how much that is?
And i though that England had free health care?? No?? Why would he have to pay for a routine physical?

UK does have free health care. There is also access to private medicine and there are companies that offer these scans at quite a modest cost. This type of problem unfortunately would only show up on a scan, and although everyone over the age of 40 years would be offered a health check at their family doctors, this would include blood pressure, blood analysis and urine tests as well as weight assessment. No one would routinely have a scan here and i feel only hypochondriacs would want one.

Chickened, if you say that people living on welfare in US are in hardship, why is it wrong for society to support them during these tough times. Isn't that what a community does. If you refer to Neville Chamberlain as an appeaser, you may be wrong. Government papers realeased after the 50 year rule, now suggest that having met with Hitler, he released that UK was in no fit state to oppose Germany. He therefore appeased him and bought some precious months during which time UK rearmed like mad. Everyone knew a war was coming. The Third Reich seemed unstoppable then. Rather a Socialist state than a Fascist one! Finally, you seem to harbour the notion that our society is a free one. The thousands of immigrants that come here from all over the world would not agree with you. Ours is largely a tolerant society where people just go about their own business and do not interfere with others. No need for guns in such a society.

No, he wasnt a hypochondriac... his wife knew something was "off" with him,.. and urged him to go in for an exam...and they found the problem...
He had to pay for it... they wouldnt include it in his physical for free, i guess..
So free health care isnt really free then?? I dont get it...
So how much is 140 pounds then?
