Then I would go with black D'Anvers. I thought I could see the muffs, that's why I asked. His beard/muffs will probably fill back in more as he gets older.

Yeah, that's why I went with a mix. He doesn't exactly fit any specific breed. D'Anvers have heavy beards that don't fade and come back unless they are experiencing feather-picking from coop-mates.
