May I see your pullet?Your pullets are so beautiful !!
Is Red a bantam ? Or Lf ?
Just curious![]()
We have three broodies!Mongoose attacked inthe morning ( 8 nov)
Her left ear was bleeding and right part of face has scartches
After that I locked her with food and water in the coop. She was scared and kept sleeping that day. She drank few sips of water no food
Yesterday there was swelling in her left part and left eye is shut due to swelling
I fed her hard boiled egg ( because she was not eating feed) and water. She wanted to go out with her siblings .But I kept her indoors ( Cause she starts chirping when I lock her in coop alone )
Today she is eating feed ( but not eating hard boiled eggs) today swelling has reduced that eye is still closed
But she is full of energy
Following me wherever I go
She is still inside.
Because with one eye she walk weirdly ( tilting her head too much )
And she is going tobe big sister
Her mother has gone broody ( again)
What are their breeds ?What a miracle! we have bantams as well, here they are!
Front to back: Holly, pullet, Hylia, pullet, and Red, my cockerel!
Red is my baby! I lost my Australorp rooster a or two ago, so he is my boy!

They do eat snakes but they kill and eat chicks too. They cant kill adult chicken ( I havent heard and seen ) but they can kill baby chicks and teen chickens easilySo glad you were able to rescue your pullet. Mongoose are native to India, are they not? I did not know they would eat chicken. I thought they only ate vermin like snakes and rats. That's what I get for reading silly stories I suppose.
My goodness! Do the chickens run loose? Or do you keep them in an enclosed area, a fenced run, where they can safely scratch and forage safe from dogs? They do eat snakes but they kill and eat chicks too. They cant kill adult chicken ( I havent heard and seen ) but they can kill baby chicks and teen chickens easily
Here hawks are very common
And then mongoose
And feral dogs ( hunt in 4-5 group )
How they hunt here :-
First they come seperately and acts normal
Then suddenly every dog grabs one adult chicken for itself if they can ( swallow chicks atonce if they grab chicks )
This happens in less than 1 minute
And then chickens starts giving alarm calls
Owner comes out of the house to see dogs have run away ( some chicks and some adult chickens are missing )
Usually this happens every time
In my 1 year of chicken raising I lost 1 chick to hawk 1 to mongoose and saved 1 from mongoose.
Sorry, didn't mention their breeds! They are bantam cochins! What are their breeds ?
Cockerel looks like isa brown
Are you sure you weren’t just seasoning it for the oven??I have a small bantam flock ( one hen one rooster and 4 3months old chicks )
I was in room when I heard rooster alarm calls and peeked through the window and saw 3 chicks are running with straight tails and neck . If I hadnt saw their upright necks and tails I would've ignored rooster calls Cause here all neighbour rooster keep shouting like that.
Then I ran outside and saw mongoose dragging one chick (10m away ) I grabbed whatever came in my hands amd ran towards it . Mongoose vanished inthe bushes and I kept hitting the place where I saw it last time.
And after 10 min I believed I lost my pullet
When I turn around It was her lying on ground. Still breathing and then she started running. She was so scared amd I took her inside.
She got little scratches I applied turmeric mustard oil paste and she is doing fine
I am too happy I saved her just wanted to share this with you
If you have your chicken you can share with me
