I thought I lost her 😌😣

I have a small bantam flock ( one hen one rooster and 4 3months old chicks )
I was in room when I heard rooster alarm calls and peeked through the window and saw 3 chicks are running with straight tails and neck . If I hadnt saw their upright necks and tails I would've ignored rooster calls Cause here all neighbour rooster keep shouting like that.
Then I ran outside and saw mongoose dragging one chick (10m away ) I grabbed whatever came in my hands amd ran towards it . Mongoose vanished inthe bushes and I kept hitting the place where I saw it last time.
And after 10 min I believed I lost my pullet
When I turn around It was her lying on ground. Still breathing and then she started running. She was so scared amd I took her inside.
She got little scratches I applied turmeric mustard oil paste and she is doing fine 😊
I am too happy I saved her just wanted to share this with you

If you have your chicken you can share with me
Wow, I super happy that you saved her and that she's doing good, personally, I have never dealt with mongoose because we don't have any but I would try to see how to predator proof your flock's area do they free range?

ok, I just read one of your posts that states that you do free-range, I know that with free-ranging it can be a little more difficult to try to stop those things from happening, I do know that if you have hawk problems you could get a fake owl that tilts its head because it's supposed to deter them you just have to move it around their area so it looks real.

The mongoose came back and killed other chick ( smallest cockerel ) 😭😭😭😭
I buried the carcass
There were teeth marks on his back
I am sure its that mongoose

oh I'm sorry for your loss I know it can be hard, do your chickens have a covered chicken run because if they do I would lock them up in there until they get bigger or until to can get rid of that mongoose problem

Do keeping rooster will reduce this problem
Will he fight with predator or act like what hens do ( run away )
Just wanna know

I am sorry about your chick! I lost quite a few to ground squirrels this year. I got them all back, alive, but they died anyway. I assume it was shock.

About your rooster, they are like human men. Some are fierce and protective, some not so much. I had a rooster that beat up a hawk, that had hold of one of his hens. But, I had another giant rooster, that was afraid of blowing leaves, and everything else. It's a personality thing, I guess.

So often y'all are saying your chickens survive the initial attack but die later... Makes me wonder if the ground squirrel bites are toxic somehow or go septic? Or if they do internal damage? We don't have these critters here, but if someone who does were to have their casualties necropsied it might shed some light on the true cause of death.
