I ordered my first chickens last year and out of those original 12, I had one hen and one roo that are still alive. They did well together and she recently hatched out 5 of the 12 eggs she was sitting on!!! She has been a very good mother, but recently she has gone missing several times. I happened to catch her coming out of the nest box the other day and looked in, she had already lain 9 more eggs, so I gathered them up to eat. I went home today and she was missing, her chicks were in the yard chillaxin. I looked in the nest box, NO HEN, getting worried I looked in my new coop that i recently built for my new batch of 24 and there she was in the nest box in that coop with 3 eggs in it. I guess she was trying to be clever and keep me from stealing her eggs..lol...who said chickens were dumb!!!
