I thought onion family was out with ducks...

Mine love Comfrey too! I found plants at the nursery several years back. Like you, I came out to find all but one eaten by my ducks. That one I protected with a wire cage. Now that my ducks are fenced off away from it, it is huge. Thanks for reminding me. I think they will get some today.
Yep anything you want to live has to have ft knox around it. My waterfowl can't come into the backyard unless I open the gate some of my LF chickens just fly to the top and come right on in. The day my comfrey was eaten to the ground was the day I let my ducks come in the back yard for a visit. Scoundrels ate it down to the ground, but thankfully it came back.

I thought about comfrey but didn't know. Had it in my last yard. I'll add of that at some point. Thanks for the suggestion. It's good for our bones/lungs. Wonder what it contains for the ducks.

Here is a great video on using comfrey. I know it's roots go very deep into the ground and brings up all kinds of great nutrients. Perhaps that's why the ducks love it so much. That said, I will do some more research about whether the issue that cautions people about taking it internally should be considered for ducks over time. I think the concern is liver damage, so perhaps in moderation (if there is such a thing with such a vigorous grower).

Alliums get trampled but haven't seen them eaten. Shooshed one of my ducks away from a hosta she was ripping up last week. First time I've seen that. The ducks used to eat greens as far in the raised beds they could reach, lettuces, chard, but not kale so much. They devour the leaves of oriental poppies, and will strip the blueberries of fruit, so fences required. I grow lettuce now for them specifically. They will finish off a whole head of leaf lettuce in a few minutes. I still grow tomatoes and peppers in the greenhouse, (they love tomatoes!) but I gave up most veggie gardening and buy shares at a local CSA now. I might try to find some comfrey to plant for them though.
