I thought/think she is egg bound- she died.

Hope she starts feeling better soon. I've had good luck tempting them to eat with canned cat food when nothing else (even scrambled eggs) would work. It's a bit high in salt so it's not my first choice, but I credit the canned cat food with turning a hen around that was so run down by a bad molt and bout of cocci that she had pretty much given up and wouldn't eat at all. Best of luck!

i tried some mushed up dog food, no go on that. Im hoping after the medicine kicks in that it will help. She can barely keep her eyes open so it must be making her extra tired. I moved her into the living room where we have the wood burner going so she will be good and warm. I was putting those heat up in the microwave beany bags inside of plastic bags to warm it up in there.

She died sometime through the night. Husband is going to open her up to see if we can find out what happened. I really hope we do so I cant maybe help prevent whatever it was.

Husband took a look at her and he said as soon as he opened her up it looked like she had cooked scrambled yolk inside of her. He didnt see any shell, and only a small egg that was farther up but not ready to travel down yet. So I dont know what happened. He said that it looked like the egg stuff was in her body not in her vent. Could it have tore somehow, maybe too large of an egg?

I haven't had one yet, but from what I've read it sounds like she may have been an internal layer. I think he'd have seen some signs of trauma if the oviduct was torn. I'm pretty sure speckledhen and Orpingtonmanor have both had to deal with internal layers so you might try a search of some of their old threads and see if you think that is what happened.

If your husband cut in too deep he would have opened the oviduct at the same time, thus causing the egg contents to spill into the cavity. Your bird definitely was an internal layer.

I had one last year, was a rough time and she finally passed. There's not much you can do once they fill up with the egg. Sorry for your loss.

He said he didnt hardly cut into her at all, he said he took one little snip and had yolk on his fingers. It had to be an internal egg, Ive read so many posts on it, thats what im going to go with. I just hope that she wasnt in pain, thats the worst part in my opinion.

Sounds like she ruptured then. That would explain the sudden death. They can really take a long time to go sometimes, seems like she was spared that, at least.
