I cleaned out their indoor brooding box while they enjoyed the sun and grass. They had a really great time. They never once huddled next to the heat lamp (it's 70 degrees outside). They ran around with worms and talked to the chickens outside their pen and stretched their wings. I just don't see how you can keep them cooped up for so long. I know I would go crazy. It also allowed me to bond with them since their pen was large enough for me to sit inside. They are inside their brooding box again and it sounds like they are making quite a mess...and jeezs are they loud!

I always loved taking the little chicks outside for some air and wing stretching. I can't wait for Spring!

I'm sure they had a great time.
I start taking chicks out at about two weeks, sometimes a little earlier.
My broody had her week old chicks out for a short time today and though most of the snow has melted, it's still pretty cold. She knows what she's doing. When the chicks started getting chilled, she took them back in.
From there to being out all day doesn't take long. Chicks grow too quickly.
