Yeah, I've been thinking about it. I remember we had ducks and ducklings when I was little and I just loved them. I really should start reading a little more about them... care, needs, etc.

Unlike like *some* people, I won't get them first and learn about them later!

The joke at my house is "Mom, are you going to join a forum for EVERY kind of animal we get?" ... My response was "Of course, I want to know as much as possible about what I am taking care of" .... This was being said due to the fact a student of mine had to get rid of a plated lizard and before something bad happened to it... I said okay. The day I found out about it... I spent 3 hours on the internet learning basic care (am I getting the real story from the student? or just what they were doing?). Learned most of what I was told was good information from the student... some was bad.
The next weekend we drove 2 hours to the closest "reptile" store and talked to the owners more about how to care for him. I still made some mistakes along the way, but far less than I would have made.

Back to chickens... I would like to say that BYC is an awesome forum and one that I don't see me getting tired of

Everyone is awesome and there is information I have gained from all of you that I could never get from Google searches.

All of you are so caring of what happens to your animals and sincerely want to learn as much as possible.


All that being said... to the OP... you appear to be a wonderful person who cares deeply for your animals, someone I have no problems knowing and learning from... Glad the baby ducks are good and I hope the teacher gets a rude awakening about how to teach caring, respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, and other pillars of character to not only her students, but herself.

As I have mentioned before... I am a teacher, but in order to teach... I have to learn. I am now sitting here trying to figure out how to add some animal husbandry information into my standards that I am required to teach with biology.... I am determined now by this post to add this to my real-life lessons for these kids (many who have already been taught irresponsible things from their parents).

Thanks everyone. I never do this, like I said, for this very reason. She seemed to have a good head on her shoulders and said she had been doing this for years only with quail. Now I wonder what happened to all the little quail babies. I have learned my lesson and these babies will be taken care of now (they are swimming as I type). I know a great lady who already told me she would love to have them. If I weren't moving and trying to sell, I would keep them. They are just so darn cute. Again thanks all. Live and learn.....

I was going to ask you to put them in an envelope and mail them to me. If we do it while they are small, they should not need many stamps for postage.

I had a teacher ask me to bring in chicks (chickens) for the last week of school.
Now I love teaching children about chickens but....
when she asked me if the chicks "could swim"
I decided NO WAY.
