I think there are much better designs on the Incubating Forum. (Homemade) They can be made for much less than $60.

to each his own, however.

Oh guess I should have writen my first post better. I want to build this Brooder Box. The picture is from Strombergs.

Junk, I'm working on an incubator too. Trying to find a used cooler right now.

GOOD LUCK !!!

HAVE FUN !!!

(I think 1/2 the FUN of chickens is the building of things for them.)

I'm sure that they increase their egg-laying in "appreciation" !

Ha-Ha !!!

I like that Sue!! Mine are about to outgrow the guinea pig cage. I think I've got a kiddie pool around here somewhere.....

Do you have a garage you can put them in? We will not have chicks in our house due to the dust (we have allergies in addition to the mess). Our brooder was in the garage last year and will be again this year. By putting the brooder in the garage most people also have room for a larger brooder. I started building a new brooder last night. It is 8' long x 3' wide x 2' tall. For the first couple of weeks I will probably put a divider in it and only use half of it. After about two weeks I will open the entire brooder up to the chicks. I will have 25 LF chicks this year.

I like yours! I could never do that because of my dogs. I just used a big container, cut the middle, put screen w/duct tape and done! lol It cost like $5. When they get bigger I move them into dog cages. I always have to keep them out of the reach of my dogs, my little dogs would play, but the big one would most likely eat my birds.

I buy furnace filters (they are really cheap) and I put it over the top of my brooder. My brooders are just large Rubbermaid tubs with hard cloth lids and a 90 watt light bulb on one end. Your chicks will need ventilation....and if you used a "real" heat lamp in that litter box you might as well but a rotisserie in there, LOL
