I want a dog to run with

I have a border collie and she has an endless supply of energy. She'll run with me until I can't move anymore, and she LOVES water. You can hardly keep her out of the pond

Another thing she likes is playing ball. And not your typical tennis ball. If there's a basketball where she can get to it, it always ends up in the pond

She scoots around the yard pushing it, and makes a great soccer/basketball playing buddy

Find a neighbor with a dog that should be able to keep up and offer to walk/run it for free. Remember to start slow on a new dog if they aren't use to running. You could even start your own business If you wanted. There are people here who charge people to run the energy out oftheir dog

Oh what an awsome idea , thank you livenzoo, that would be cool for her and for the dogs who would normally probly be stuck inside or in a back yard . Not to mention extra money during the summer is never anything to sniff at. ... wonder if I should pull out my walking shoes.

looking for a running partner please take one of my huskies so they'll calm down! lol I love my monsters but they start there running up and down the steps at 5 am and then stop to lay down out side aorund 11pm! there nutz!

There are lots of dogs that will fit the bill. These two run 3 miles a day with my husband. You'd think the little one would have a hard time keeping up but she actually has great stamina!

If you get a Golden Retriever (and probably the same goes for a lab) you shouldn't take them running for more than a mile for the first six months to a year - something about their hips, I think.

Have fun!

Labs are great for running...and TBH a Newf is good too! We had a huge Newf male and he loved running...though you can't run them early like you can with Labs, they can suffer from joint problems if worked too hard too early.

Gorgeous dog!!

Thanks!

Also, these ARE bird dogs, but I've heard from friends that if you raise them around chickens, they become perfect protectors. They're smart dogs and know the difference between hunted and pet.
Our dog isn't big, but she's fast. She's chased off 3 coyotes (all at once), trespassers, and anything not part of her 'pack'. She gets along just fine with the cats and horses. A bit of energy as a pup, though not as much as a lab. Settles down right quick once full size. We kennel our dog during the week, and let her sleep wherever on the weekends. She understands that the rules change wherever we are.
Does your dad hunt? These are EXCELENT hunting dogs.
