I want a stand mixer... Advice and recommendations?

The idea of a new hand mixer, too, is tempting. You should hear my current cheap one from Target whine when I make stiff buttercream icing.

Please think about the Pro 600!! The biggest difference is NOT the size of the bowl, BUT the size of the MOTOR. The bigger the motor, the bigger load that it can handle!! That is why it can take large bread recipes or cookie recipes.

I have a Pro 600 with the crankup head. It holds six quarts and has a 575 W motor. I can make large (multiple) recipes of whole wheat bread or make 3/4 pint of Chantilly Creme (3/4 pt of whipping cream, plus powered sugar).

I bought my Pro 600 on sale in the holiday season, but I would check all the online resources if I was looking again. There are many attachments available (birthday opportunities!!!).

The PRO 600 comes in LOTS of colors!!! (I have black, my daughter has a green, my niece has a red and my nephew has a gray!!)

If you are thinking that you don't want to spend an extra $100, please think about this ----many posters here have said that they have had their KitchenAid units for 20 or 30 years. That amounts to $3 to $5 a YEAR for the bigger KitchenAid. You are worth it!!!

One last thing: my daughter, niece and nephew are all graduates of professional culinary schools. They ALL have KitchenAid Pro 600s!!!
