from what i understand muscovies are illegal in places like (but not necessarily ALL of these places) California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, NM, etc, because they are native to some places & then with the added release of them from irresponsible owners & their famous brooding abilities they have become a huge problem.
i think that - from friends who live in areas where they were illegal - that they are making it more restrictive to get them, but not illegal.

i could be wrong & if i am i am sure someone will correct me.

i tried keeping my ducks with my chickens for 2 days while i finished the duck enclosure.
i moved them into the breezeway of my house instead. they soaked the chicken coop & i the chickens (even after quite a bit of interaction before they were moved in) were mean to them. they are like a gang, those chickens, and ducks (at least mine) have too gentle a disposition to inflict my chickens on them.
i know many people are successful raising them together, but for my sake - ease of cleaning - the separate pens were better for me.
