You really should not get one chick, and a chicken really shouldn’t live inside either. I would listen to your mom because chickens require a lot of research and work to properly care for. Just raising chicks in the brooder requires research and time. If you really want chickens you should do plenty of research with your parents and perhaps wait a few years until you’re older or more prepared. You need to know how to protect chickens from the various predators that they have, what to feed them and what not to, the space requirements in the coop and run, how much roost space they need, nesting box space, ventilation in the coop, be prepared to deal with extra roosters, and know their mental and social needs to prevent bullying. There’s also the part of making sure they’re actually legal to keep in your town and things like an hoa, lot size, and city rules can fully ban chickens, ban just roosters, or limit your flock size. Now, chickens are really fun to raise and if you and your parents do the research this could potentially be a fun thing for you guys to all get into. The bonus is farm fresh eggs which are much better than storebought. This website is full of fantastic information to learn from, perhaps some of the best information out there. I spent a long time on this website before getting chickens so I could learn as much as I could and I’m still learning more today.
