The title says it all, almost. I want to do it again, but I don't need any more chickens. What do I do about that? What do all you hatchers do with all the chicks you hatch out? I have gone from 12 chickens to 35 in one month. So now what? HELP ME PLEASE.

Be aware!! Hatch eggs that are desirable in this area. Like I know everyone loves silkies. Well around here, everyone loves rhode island reds not silkies so nobody buys my silkies even though that is a desirable breed.

Always someone wanting chickens out there, and with the economy the way it is you have to think like this, by hatching chicks and giving them away or selling them cheaply you are helping others out, and it's a wonderful excuse to keep hatching them babies!

For my first and only hatch I just did some of my own bantam eggs. So they are mutts, but it was an easy and cheap way to try this out. So when you have a variety that you want to breed you obviously have to keep your pairs seperate if you have many varities and/or many roos. How big of a pen do you have for a pair? And do they live in it all the time? And how many hens per roo? Right now my chickens free range during the day as I was never going to raise any. Now I am having 2nd thoughts about that. We have the space, just not the facilities. I have 2 roos of different breeds and the get along ok, but I know that is not the norm. In the winter when I am not collecting eggs can I let them be together or am I only asking for trouble?

Thanks for all the input. I got the hatch it bug.

I think you just need breeding pens you're not going to incubate eggs all the time are you? If I was building from the start I'd good looking around the coops board lots of great info there

Let's say that I have 3 or 4 different varieties of chickens that I want to raise. That means I have at least 4 roosters. So if I have them in breeding pens in the spring, will they co-habitate the rest of time and get along? I don't need any roo fights. I know there is no guarantee on any of this, but I just want to know what others do.

Hmmm..yep, that's a true sign of addiction. LOL...I find so many ppl. wanting them once I put the word out that it is not even funny..just start talking it up.
