i want to keep all my roos... but how to manage the flock?

I got a mixed bunch of bantam babies last spring and wound up with 8 roos out of 20. I would like to keep them,but....For the moment I put most roos out in the yard, and one silkie and one game bantam in with the hens. I had to clip wings on a couple who could fly back into the pen. They were just running the hens ragged. That's my temporary solution. I am in VA if any one is looking for bantam roosters...

I've done this before and it works just fine. They develop their own pecking order and things stay calm as long as no hens are in there with them! They'll still crow all day and night and they'll spend A LOT of time walking up and down the adjoining fence to pose and dance for the ladies, but as long as the girls stay on their side of the fence; there shouldn't be any fighting (other than normal pecking order stuff).

Wait until they get older and you will get tired of all the drama. It will go well for a while and then you will need to make that choice. Believe me, I've been there wanting to keep everyone but it just did not work out. Live and learn.

I feel for ya. I know what your thinking, but in my opinion ( and this is just my opinion) You want to give all your little ones a good life and home, I felt the ssame way, I raised 10 Roos for a year and things went pretty smooth for a while till they killed one of my girls, and beat each other up trying to vie for top Roo. And Grown Roos are hard to find homes for so Yesterday I wound up taking 6 Roos and a bunch of little Roos to the zoo as food for the other animals. that is super hard in any case but once your attached it is the most horrible feeling there is I think. So please think long and hard about the fate of your chicks in the long run and make a full plan of what is to become of them if things dont come out as well as you hope. I'm sorry to be so negative but i just don't want you to go through what i just had to yesterday. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide. Sandy

Thanks everyone...

I do want to keep all my current roos but for new hatching babies, they will probably have to find new homes - I have to resign myself to that

It will maybe help if I don't name them?? They are too easy to love, all these chickens?
