Hi everyone I really want to start a breeding program with one breed in specific.. The problem is I really cant decide on a breed... I have a coop design all set but I need to know what breed to pick. I want a breed who is recovering. It needs to have a decent laying record. I dont have a problem with bantams so definitly include them in your ideas... I want to get hooked on one breed in specific and start breeding quality lines of them to sell, chicks, and hatching eggs from.
So far I am considering these breeds

Self Blue OEGB
Red Pyle OEGB
Lavender Orpington
Blue Cochin (standard or bantam)

Thanks in advance... all opinions are welcome, Luv

I would go with the Lavender Orpingtons. They are the best laying breed on your list. Also the Orpingtons (and the Cochins) are very calm, gentle birds. Good luck with your choice.

I know also i can get them sexed unlike the oegb... I love lavender orpingtons they are great moms, layers and are so fluffy..

Okie I have had my eye on them for a while but I also wanted alot of other breeds, and eventually i decided to pick one and perfect that because trying to make quality breeding lines in five different breeds i know nothing about may get a little hectic. I most likely will not be purchasing them until next spring but i want to learn as much as I can about ths wonderful breed..

Do you know any good hatcheries ... we tried murray mcmurray but we were not impressed..

Thanks again
