I've grown up around chickens, but have never had my own flock. I would like brown egg layers, but also would like friendly, docile birds. I have no interest in my birds for meat.
I was thinking maybe a silver laced wyandotte, a golden lace wyandotte, a barred rock, a black austrolorp, & a buff orpington. would these birds tend to get along well together?
I had thought I'd like a RIR, but from what I've read, they would probably bully these more peaceable chickens. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Welcome to BYC! Choosing docile breeds is a good start. You can have an aggressive bird in any breed. I recommend you make sure you have lots of space for your birds, good diet, and plenty of patience. Start small and start researching...you came to the right place!
 
Are you going to buy chicks and raise them or buy hens already laying? If buying older hens, it might be good to start with hens all from the same breeder due to pecking order, diseases, etc. I bought mine from a backyard breeder - no pure breds, but all different colours which was important to me. lol If buying chicks, you shouldn't have any of those integration issues.

Buff Orps, Black Australorps, Wynadottes, all very docile birds that get along. Great lap sitters too. I have found Rhode Island Reds, even some Barred Rocks to be a bit aggressive and high strung.
