I was asked to put up this picture..Chicks on Pages 6..New question P7

but what about the brown eggs?

Well if these birds aren't purebred to begin with there could be something in their gene pool that caused them to lay a brown egg instead.

Maybe they're only part Andulasian. Maybe they're half Marans?

Ok. I hate to restart this but...........

The hens do lay brown eggs, darker than a RIR but ligter than a Marans so maybe they are half marans. Now the rooster.....Well, I have had two hatches so far with a third of someone who bought eggs. Ihave hatched two white chicks from these egss. One each hatch. The person who bought them did not. I have also hatched out a solid black as well. The ones that come out blue are different shades ranging from dark to light blue. I was wondering what all you experts think. I am wondering where the white gene is coming from. I solid the previos white one so I can not comment on the color changes as it grows. I am keeping this white one. Of the four blues I have left, three are still nice a blue and all roosters!!!! One hen is also blue. Could the rooster be a blue leghorn with a recessvie white trait? If so, would the hens have to have a white trait too?

HUMMMM

Splash chicks are often born solid white...some will stay solid with little to no splash and others will get splash coloring when they feather.Blue bred to blue is half blue chicks of various shades 25% splash which most will look solid color at hatch and 25% black. That's going to happen even with mix bred chicks like these are as it is the blue color and has NOTHING to do with the breeds used.If you want to breed only blue you need to breed the black and splash and not breed blue to blue.
Also splash chicks hatch in various shades of white to a bluish smokey color too light to call a blue and too smokey to call white they vary like the blue shades do.
That rooster is NOT a blue Leghorn for so many reasons it is a Blue Andalusian you know walks like a duck talks like a duck it is a duck.Has only 1 trait of a Leghorn and that is a white ear so no matter how it wants to be a duck it just isn't possible

The hens are NOT the same breed as that rooster. The only thing they have in common is color. Many of my brown egg layers lay darker than my RIR and we have only one Cuckoo here...not laying yet.

I was also going to say that splash chicks are often born a solid. I hatched out splash Ameraucanas, and they were all solid at hatch. Had to wait for feathers to see any splash markings. Now they are just gorgeous. Keep the white one and see if (s)he changes at all once feathers start coming in.
