and then the kids made these for Easter and they are so cute! I've been trying to cut down the amount of poultry that I have and thought that would really help out, but now I'm thinking maybe I should keep just a few hens and maybe just one roo

Coturnix eggs are delicious hard boiled. You can then pickle them or just put them in a salad.
I've found though they are much easier to peel if they are steamed rather then boiled.
I'd keep some around just for the eggs to.

My kids love them too! They are the perfect bit size for them, so they don't make such a mess when they are eating them, like they would with a large chicken egg. Has anyone compared the cost of raising quail eggs compared to chicken eggs? Since Gamebird feed is more expensive, I wonder if they are more expensive or less expensive because they begin laying sooner and don't eat as much.

I've just been using a chick feeder (the type with the holes around the base and a mason jar on top). Is there a better type to use? I don't think they waste a lot, but I think every bit I can save helps!

quail convert 2 pounds of feed into 1 pound of eggs. It takes chickens 3 pounds of feed to produce 1 pound of eggs, approx. its probably cheaper almost no matter what. plus quail start laying younger and lay more consistently.

I can't find the picture of the Coturnix Feeders I use but they're the same design as this one for Button Quail.

I have 8 of the Large ones for Coturnix and 15 for Buttons. They paid for themselves quickly in saved feed.
And I have 5 more on order.
If you want the guys contact info PM me.

I LOVE THOSE EGGS!!!!! What a great idea - they are really pretty and unique as well. I would keep some quail too! In fact I have a few that were gifted to me at the Jacob's Cave swap in the bator now - I just hope they hatch........
