You've got to poke around the internet for plans. They are out there. Adding the words "free chicken coop plans" or "free dog house plans" will help you with ideas. This is how I start out and then eventually I build what I want. Good luck.

We bought our coop plan from mypetchicken.com. We got the plan for the Daisy which will hold up to 12 hens comfortably. They have plans for many other coops as well.

You can check the Purina website for a smaller coop design. The Virginia Extension website (part of the Virginia Agriculture Dept) has three different sizes on their site. I ended up looking at pics here and on google and also checking books at the library. Most of the "free" plans show little or no framing details nor materials lists. I'm designing mine myself from ideas and putting it on paper first so I can get an idea of how to build it and exactly what I need for materials. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I got ours from the Purina page, along with our new rabbit hutch.

I didn't see any on the Extension offices site and I live in VA and am on that website quite a bit, my 9yo is in 4-H through that same office. Should I look?? Yes I think I will.

Go to library or bookstore and browse the books on "building a shed" (like a backyard storage type shed) or "building a playhouse". Some of those books have EXCELLENT detailed plans, shopping lists, and well-photographed step by step by step instructions

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
