I was thinking, I would like your thoughts on this.

my sicilian buttercup chicken, "buttercup" laid me an egg the first morning after i sprung her from the shelter and i'm convinced it was to express her gratitude!
i think chickens have strong feelings about people and other chickens. my opinion is that she is laying eggs for you because she is happy and love ya!
but i'm one of those crazy animal-lovin' types so . . .

Thanks fallenweeble, I think so too. I saw that whopper you got, you must give lots of love.

And Gonzo, there is hope for you yet. I know many a guy with sensitivity and it really is nice to see.

Actually I love to see a man caressing any living being (especially me)from a child to a chicken it shows what is inside.

Men are finally getting it: let those feelings out, you may even be rewarded with a few extra eggs in the process.

Our chickens all get attention - even my husband

talks to them all............... (he does have his favorites)

I think it makes a difference as far as egg laying, being that its BITTERLY cold here - nights below zero and no extra light in the coop - we still get 3 eggs a day or so and we're getting more than a week ago - our girlies are young still. Only 24 weeks, and I know some haven't started laying yet. (8 standard girls)

They ALL get thanked everytime we get an egg - even my kids know to say THANK YOU!!! And the kids know I send out special treats every now and then.... yesterday it was a few worms, this morning they got a big spoon of peas left over from dinner.

I was always told to thank God for the food you eat, so I also go to the source and thank my girls. Since I didn't know who was laying, I only have one right now, I looked at all of them. I must admit I mostly looked right at my Tina. I am so happy it is her that's giving me those lovely nuggets.

:aww

I too give treats each time I retrieve one, but then again I give them treats anyway.

I understand the love of a dog or cat but to actually love a chicken, wow now that is awesome. I know some may think I am over the top I would have thought so too. I don't have family and I am saying goodbye to my best friend so for me they are my therapy.
