I was thinking on raising only d'Uccles but is that true that they are VERY slow to mature??? at what age do they start to lay?

I am not sure, but mine are 7 months old and no sign of eggs yet. Although both girls combs are getting pretty red finally. So maybe they will lay soon.

Mine started laying around 22 weeks - but it was the dead of winter and I finally added a light to the coop. They lay pretty consistantly since then. Three of them did go broody recently but after some issues with nest confusion and squabbling we easily broke them of broodiness.
