I was told .........

I have 22 hens that are about 26 weeks old. Only 9 are laying a this time. Some look close, others still have a light pink comb. BO's, EE'sand BR's. They'll start when they're ready. It's sssoooo hard to wait.....

I had someone tell me back when I was waiting on my first eggs that a protein boost would do them good. Dump a couple of cups of cooked BROWN rice and a couple of cans of tuna together and give them some for a few days- yummy! Eggs!

It worked for me, but it may have just been their time.

Your not doing anything wrong. We were told the same thing and my girls didn't start laying until they were about 10 months and let me tell you they are dropping eggs like flies in a bug bomb.

Do you put the light on in the evening or the morning? Chickens like to "Go to Bed
with the Chickens" Put the light on a timer to get them up early, if there is food they will be glad to start their day.

How bright is the light? It needs to be bright enough to
suppress melanin. I have no idea how bright that is!

Well for starters if that's a beer in your hand..............
Serioulsy it can take a little longer depending on the breed. And they are females which means "when I'm good and ready".

I have it going on at 5pm, but it's funny once one goes in they ALL go in around 6:30pm

I could have the timer go on in the am, but when I went down this am at 6:30 there was only one that had gotten off the roost.

If I set it for earlier than I get up they would only be in the hen house and the light is really over the run area. UNLESS I start getting up at 5am - argh!

We have a silver clamp lamp that has a GE cfl bulb that is equivalent to 150W and it simulates natural sunlight, very pretty light.
