I wasn't sure where to put this... oak tree question.

I recently read that oak tree leaves and acorns are poisonous to chickens. Not good. I have a large oak tree in my back yard. While the run isn't overly close to it, I did notice some dead leaves in the area that is going to be their run.

So, now what?

Do they know enough not to eat them?

I doubt they'd eat bulk oak leaves. Likely more apt to dig at them to reveal what's beneath them (grasses, worms, insects, etc) than take much interest in the leaves themselves.

My chickens free range and they are always in and around oak leaves and I have had 0 problems. They scratch through the leaves for worms, grubs, crickets, etc I have never seen them eat a leaf.
