brood chicks in my house again. I always forget what a mess/stink they cause after about week 4 when they start pooping more and learn how to dustbathe in their shavings. From now on I will order my replacement chicks in July or August so that I can brood them in the garage where dust and smell do not matter (and I have a bigger brooder

). Anyone else feeling me here? I love these little birds, but the mess they create (shavings everywhere and some spilled feed) in our laundry room and basement are driving me nuts.

I agree. We just had our 2nd set of eggs hatch on monday. The 1st set are a little over a month old and have been moved to the shed. No more winter hatching. At least not in the house.

Yeah, you oughta try ducks! Yuck!

Chickies are much easier to clean up after and keep down the smell.
But I am with you guys, I don't like brooding in the house.

I love it!

Sorry, but it's like a annual cycle. Everyone in a hurry to get their chicks, then the next round of posts are "I will never brood chicks in my house again".

Having a single handicapped chick in the house for a week was almost more than I could take. Chicks on this farm are brooded outside only.

I have 2 rir, 2 phoenix, and 2 cayuga ducks in one large rubbermaid brooder. I've never brooded ducks before and OMG they are the messiest little critters!! They love to play in the water to the point that all the paper towels at the bottom get soaked, plus they poop alot so its

One thing I did to make sure the water was under control is I took a base from my large red waterer and put it under the quart waterer, this way, they can play but it doesn't get too messy because the red part never actually gets full.

Yeah, try ducks. I have 12 5 day old ducks in my bathtub. This is the second batch this year!!! Pee Ewwww. At least cleaning the tub is easier then a brooder box. Oh, I also have a chicken living in my kitchen. She isn't so bad. I can at least open the windows today..... lol.
