I am a law abiding gun owner who lives in California, I wonder how many other byc'ers are gun owners.
If you are anti gun, why?
please be respectful.

just like owning chickens, people who want chickens are educated vs those such as some city employees who dont know much about chickens uphold or deny residents to own chickens base off hear say or whatever reasons.
But once you are educated about the subject i think more people side with gun ownership and personal defense.

The recent shooting in Colorado is a horrible incident. The movie theater does not allow people to carry guns into their theaters.
What if they did allow people to carry? I think a person carrying could have possibly limited the numbers of people shot and possibly saved more lives.

I don't own a gun, but have in the past and will in the future. I am terrible with a hand gun, very good with a rifle, but greatly enjoy both. That said, rabidly pro-gun people are just as extreme to me as rabidly anti-gun people, and those tend to be the two sides that dominate such threads...maybe this one will be a pleasant surprise though. ;)

I feel owning a gun only gets you so far in defense...same with taking a martial arts course. Your own gun can be used against you (sometimes by you, as waiting in the ER in some states has clearly shown me). And, with either hand-to-hand or guns, owning and having training doesn't mean you will be able to use it when the time comes, including reasons such as freezing up with panic. Basically, I wouldn't personally use a gun as a crutch to feel safer.

black powder is cool, i dont own any though, the oldest gun i own is a correct grade m1 garand from the korean era. I got it from CMP.
Not only a piece of history awesome to shoot. I served in the Marines from 01-03, which basically engrained shooting in my life.
Also own 4 AR-15s in different variants 20 inch, 16 inch. one that shots half inch groups at 100 yards, shooting is one of my many fun sports, cycling, ham radio, computers games, radio control cars and planes and of course chickens.

But the issue about California and gun control it sucks because many counties deny law abiding citizens from getting a Conceal carry license even if they qualify.

CA recently banned unloaded open carry of handguns and now trying to ban long guns because people fear the sight of a gun.
There are many cases where people are denied unlawfully to get a CCW permit and calguns foundation is suing those counties.
I wish other states could help some how.

Many times people have said that and its false. Its statements made by anti gun campaigns to instate fear of those on the fence.

Here is a few examples how a gun was used defensively

Of course they have been, as have knives, fists, and even vomit. That was not the point made. :)

I own a gun. I hunt, target practice, and handle my weapon frequently. I am also very careful, a non violent person, and very interested in human rights issues. I try to keep a balenced attitude about such a dangerus object. Just as I aproach the horses I raised from birth with caution and calm, never gun my tractor, and drive my car like the several thousand pound deadly peice of machenary it is.

X2. Said it much better than I could. :D

Well, a horse has its own mind. a gun and car are tools, misused can be dangerous. just like a hammer can be used for driving nails as to a gun shooting paper targets and both use to kill. A gun cant be frightened and kick you.
Its crazy how some people blame the tool when its the human mind that is dangerous. A hammer untouched is just a hammer just like a gun is.
I try to be logical as much as I can and unbiased.
