I would like some advice but I live in a mild winter climate?

I love this set up, I think I will fallow this design. THanks

Are you saying they free range but go to the nesting boxes to lay? Thanks, forgive me but somethings I just don't "get".

Yes, until I put a pair of pigeons in the coop recently, I would just leave the door open while they are free-ranging and they would go back in their to lay. Now I have to close it so the pigeons don't get out (just for a few more weeks until they know that is "home"), but I keep an eye on them an when I see one pacing around the coop I let her back in and she does her buisness. Most days they have already laid before I get home from work. I would maybe cut out part of one of the walls of your coop and sort of do and 'extension' of a run/ nest boxes if possible.

ETA - for the cold weather I have clear vinyl sheets I hang up on the sides to block the wind. So far they seem fine, and if we get any really cold weather like last year I will cover the front as well. They are wearing down coats, so I'm sure we don't need to worry about them down here!

scrambled please,
i'm with ya, girl! south texas, here. here's what i did --- i took the side facing the run off entirely. so, basically it's a 3 sided coop 4L x 6W x 4H. the boxes are inside and tho' it's panting hot in the summer, they won't lay anywhere else! i was worried about the winter (I use the term loosely..), but they've been fine. i just close up the windows on the north and east sides when the wind blows.
