I would like to say something to everyone.

i've had a seller send me the WRONG eggs! and then get huffy and puffy when called out.

i've also had a seller NOT send me the eggs.

when i say something? i'm the jerk. i'm the difficult one.

well, the lady who sent me the wrong eggs - - i paid over a hundred bucks for those eggs and only one that hatched was the actual breed i paid for. that's insane. and, of course, her response makes it criminal, in my opinion. i'm thinking about filing charges based on the money and principle.

Now this is totally not right! That is an extremely bad seller!

I just reciently sent some eggs and sometimes my kids will bring in the eggs and say "this is from the orange pen mommy" or "these came from the gray birds" So I mark them that way and gess what...low and behold the customer hatched the wrong color babies!!!! I definately offered to replace the eggs, but the customer said NO they were very happy with what they hatched. They even said that they were going to buy more eggs in the future. NOw that was a wonderful person to deal with, and come to think of it, I better remember who they are so I can write thier name down and give them a HUGE discount next time or send double the eggs they ordered!

I have bought eggs from BYC and ebay. The ABSOLUTE best egg wrapper and shipper is James Meeks of Skyline Poultry!

NOBODY has come close to his wrapping and shipping. I rec'd 15 eggs from him and I'm on day 17 and have only tossed 2 clears and recently 1 quitter.

But speaking about what the air cells looked like they were the BEST that I have ever rec'd. All of my air cells looked great! Meaning NONE had that sloshy, bubbly, scrambled look! I cannot say that about anybody else!

Here is a link to his website/blog where he shows how he wraps his eggs. I think, not exactly sure if he charges extra for his wrapping supplies but SO WHAT if he does! I will pay extra to get great shipped eggs, isn't that what we ALL want?

Look
on the Euskal Oiloa thread and see what others are saying about his shipping technique. ALOT of people could learn from him!

I recently ordered Lavender Orp eggs. 2 orders before any hatched. Got solid yellow chicks from the first batch and got black chicks from the second. Told her about the first ones and nothing was done so I didn't mention the second. Second eggs were ordered while first ones were still being incubated. I gave the yellow chicks away and just culled the second batch. I wonder if anyone else has had a problem with this seller as far as getting the wrong eggs? She does one good packaging job as eggs hatched traveling 2000+ miles. I am through ordering eggs unless I really find someone I can trust. I think I will go the baby chick route. For what I paid for the eggs I could of bout 2 dozen chicks for very little more.

Thanks for sharing this information about James Meeks. I enjoyed watching his video and seeing his method of shipping. I liked the way he packaged the eggs with the bubble wrap open on the ends. In my earlier post I mentioned that I thought that bubble wrap could be a problem because some of the eggs that I had ordered in the past were wrapped so tightly in it that there was no doubt in my mind that the eggs were not getting any oxygen. They were double wrapped and taped airtight. Needless to say, my hatch rate was 0. Bubble wrap is good if the eggs can breathe. I just wanted to clarify that. It is good to see shippers that care about how they wrap and ship.
I definitely will be wrapping and shipping my products with TLC. Thanks again!

I'll definitely be using the "Meek's Method" to package eggs to be shipped. That video certainly made a believer out of me.

I've bought tons of button quail eggs off of Ebay and only had a problem with one seller. She actually packed the eggs loose in a box of shipping peanuts! I received a box that was wet and had egg oozing out one corner! She tried to tell me she "ships eggs loose all the time and not one has ever been broken". Yeah right. Not one of my 24 weren't broken.

I agree, this was great information and I'm going to try it on my 3 orders going out tomorrow. I have never had a broken egg in 5 months of shipping eggs and very minimal loose air sac and/or clear egg complaints. The development and hatch rates for my eggs have been high and everyone is happy, but I always feel there is room for improvement, so thank you for posting!

I bought some eggs from emvickery and luckypickens and out of those eggs ALL of emvickrey are forming and 32 out of the 34 of luckypickens are forming. Both were package awesome and both were a pleasure to deal with.

So I will just send a shout out to those sellers, and say I'm taking a chance when buying shipped eggs, but the seller is taking a chance too.

Good thread!

Soooo true! It's really a gamble buying eggs that have to be shipped.......Kind of like winning the lotto. If you get some of the eggs to hatch, then you're truly lucky!

I've bought eggs here and on eBay. My first two purchases resulted in 56 eggs that never hatched - that was incubation error. I did have 5 detached air cells and quite a few that looked like the yolks were scrambled. Two were cracked as well. Still, I am sure it was incubator error.

I just had a 66% hatch rate from shipped eggs - they were set under my broodies. There were some issues because I moved them once and they left the eggs for 5hrs+ and the one left the nest totally for 2 days. The other one couldn't sit on all the eggs herself. I have another 9 shipped eggs under my Silkie that I haven't checked at all. They are due to hatch next week, so we will see!
