Does it make a difference ordering them as chicks then ordering them as eggs?

No it will not make a difference as they are still a hatchery and don't get their eggs from a breeder. Like I said before, if you want good birds, that are to the SOP, you need ones from a breeder.

Also, keep in mind, that even from a breeder, not all the chicks will be show quality, but you have a much better chance of getting them. It is all in the parents and breeders should provide you with pics of the parents, whereas with a hatchery, you have no idea what the parents look like and there is no way to find out. There is a HUGE difference in breeder chicks and hatchery chicks.

Just keep in mind that while you can breed your Polish, you shouldn't breed any of what you have together. Also, your chicks are hatchery chicks, so I doubt they will be up to the standard for breeding or showing.

If you are really serious about it, get in contact with a breeder and get eggs or chicks from them.

P.S.- I wouldn't count on your SL being a roo or the others being girls just yet. I saw your what gender is this post and commented that you needed to wait until they had indicators to figure it out. The difference between breeder and hatchery Polish is imense.

I am planing on getting a silver laced rooster as I love the coloring

So I am hoping my SL chick is not a roo I posted pictures so you could see. I do understand that hatchery chicks are not going to be show quality. I do want to get some from a breeder later on but right now I am trying to learn the basics of breeding chickens. I also posted pics of my buff laced pullet.

Because they will not breed true in the proper color variety (For showing). Although they do create very pretyy colors for the backyard herd. Don't let anyone tell that hatchery birds are inferior. Some are and some aren't. I like my hatchery chickens they come at a fair price. Someday I would like to have some Show quality though.

I have never gotten into breeding chickens until now so this is new to me. I have a little back yard flock right now and would not mind adding to it. Right now I am just trying to figure out the breeding and genetics of polish. So I figured I could just start with what I have and wait to find a good breeder of polish. Do you know of any good breeders?

Thanks

I don't know any breeders personally. There are some on BYC. Just find the Polsih thread and start asking questions there. I have nothing against private breeders personally, all I have ever worked with are hatchery birds and have been happy with them, but I use mine mostly for eggs and meat.
