IA here

I can't imagine having to deal with that as often as you do, Eric. Especially with all the livestock we have, and having to be out in the weather for hours every day. I'll stop complaining about my chores now.

Well, maybe not. he he.

We have a steer that is as dumb as a rock. Our Nelson waterer broke down and he wouldn't drink out of a heated water tub I borrowed from a friend. I was having to carry water to the numbskull twice daily. Heck, I could dip water out of the tub and sit in in a bucket next to the waterer and he'd drink that. Oh, and I stuck my hand in the tub, it was fine. There are other things this anti brilliant steer does also. Only a few more months until we take him to the locker...

Oh, and anyone that is thinking about getting a Nelson waterer, don't. They are a pain. I was warned about them before we got ours, and I didn't listen. Should have.

Being we are kinda snowed in and I did not want to tell ghost stories so ...you know had to cover something!
It's early am now, still some snow blowing around. I hear the bobcats at the Geritol Lab across the street. Oh, the Geritol Lab is the old folks housing. I call it that cause there are infrequent lights and sirens over there if one of them falls or can't answer the phone. I always think they're getting busted!
Streets and driveways here are level full of snow. I usually go down for coffee at 5 am and am trying to decide if I should go or not. Wind is still gusting, I can hear it. No plows out yet I expect to hear them soon but they might wait til daybreak.

Our issues are minor compared to what Ladywoodsong is probably going through, how'd it go out there this morning Joy?
State plows were getting stuck in the same spots last night. Ambulances went in ditches. People got stuck at work etc. They had twin road graders trying to keep a county blacktop open that runs through town. They stayed side by side moving snow. The payloader going down our street this morning really caught me off guard. They were opening paths on their way to intersections to open up the roads. The snow did not stick out in the country except in front of buildings and around corners and of course drifts and anywhere it could whip around and settle. A friend of ours, who lives in the country, said her address is now 2 miles South of her previous location.... the wind blew her there!

It's not too bad down here in the big city. The wind was horrible last night but not a ton of snow. I left the chickens in the coop until 9:30, they are just venturing out right now. It is all the "seasoned" hens though that survived the huge drifts of snow last year. The ones that have never seen snow are still hiding along with my old cuckoo maran.

My son loves hats too. There is a store here called Atomic Garage that often has neat hats. We just got Alex one for Christmas. It is a grey felt fedora style with a guinea feather in the band. The brand is Stevens, though that means nothing to me

My husband is still trying to get our tractor started. The key is frozen, won't move. He's out there with my blow-dryer now trying to thaw it out.

The road grader went by but the issue is now clearing out our driveway to GET to the gravel road. That's going to take a while. We are completely snowed in by four foot drifts.

Had a rough morning here. No power to the out buildings. Luckily my chicks were still alive and well. We figured out it was the Nelson Waterer again.

This Spring I'm going to rip that waterer out and put in a new one. One of the cheapies that no one seems to have trouble with!!!

Had some 3 foot drifts I had to shovel to get to a couple of my pens. Wind is still going strong here.

My oldest Royal Palm hen seems on the weak side this morning. So i scooped her up and put her in a building. Hopefully she is ok. Normally you can't catch her without a big fight.

It's pretty windy here. I left all the birds inside the barn today. The snow is blowing all over the place across the fields so in some spots there is just grass and in other spots there are some snow drifts forming. We only got an inch or so of snow or maybe even less. It's hard to tell with it all blowing around. Some if it even blew under the garage door so there is small pile of snow in there right now. My birds are all huddled together in the hay bales in the barn. Some of them are huddled with their goat friends as well. Hope your turkey is okay, Trish.

All the eggs are still showing movement. The other bator blew the thermostat so we have to wait for the replacement Jerrit ordered. We got the cheapy LG still air that most farm stores have and for now or probably til they hatch it should work, hopefully. Really wish there was a computer fan or something to hook up into that bator to move the air around.

They'll be fine. Not much air moves around under an old broody hen I suspect. I can only assume that, never spent any time there myself! But you can move them a couple times a day if you'd like, it won't hurt even 3 times a day.

Lora took the car to work this AM, first time it's been out of the garage since Friday. All the birds are doing well, a few are sneezy again, but healthy otherwise. Giving them plenty of cracked corn. Delmar has a pretty lousy crow to him, he'd be great in a sore throat commercial! (Delmar is the Delaware roo). It was very cold up here. Windchills at -30. We are all right under the jet stream so that will continue.

How are you doing out there Joy? Get the tractor started and the snow moved? I really thought school would be delayed but it wasn't. My oldest called from school and forgot his basketball stuff so I'll have to venture up to Arnolds Park to drop that off.

How about you Jason? Did you get buried over there or was it not bad for you?

Trish, hows your turkey? It's a bad time of year to come down with turkey flu or whatever they get. Don't the slow ones end up on the table naked? Or is this one a pet?

She seemed a little better last night. Still ruffling her feathers, not shivering as much.

She gets by on her looks alone. She's rather a pain, as far as Turkeys go. She picks on the chickens.

The rooster I had shown a couple of weeks ago would get turn out time in a black metal dog crate with the plastic pan taken out. This turkey hen would circle the cage continuously and terrorize him.

Whenever I come home with feed, she jumps in my vehicle if I leave the door open while unloading it.

When I catch her, she does her best to try to kill you for daring to touch her!
