IA here

Hi Schroeder,

Hope you have a great hatch! Wait until day 23, if you don't see any other chicks working on getting out, then transfer the chicks to the brooder. Have your brooder set up and warm. There are a lot of threads already on here that can give you great instructions on brooding. Click on the tab "Learning Center" on the top menu of this page.

PM is a private message.

I don't know how the eggs are doing that I got from Kari in Waverly. They are mixed in with about 2,000 other eggs in an incubator. I'll let you know how many I get total, as I set some of my own with them on Monday. I'll be separating her eggs from mine when we are hatching so I can toe punch them to tell them apart.

You responded in a childish attack mode unlike the other response that was explanatory, well thought out, and courteous.

Schroeder - I will send you a private message with my number in it. Look at the top left part of your screen and it will show you have a PM. Then click that. Tonight I was at my daughters track meet, so I just got home and my wonderful hubby had already locked up all the chickens. He even made sure to get the 3 babies into the coop.

Black Cochin Bantams - 1. I drool over your cochin avatar. 2. Feel free to join in our chicken lovers "club". Like Eric said, several of us have met in person so we talk about all kinds of stuff - it almost always comes back to chicken talk though

and I do realize this is an open forum. I am never trying to be rude and never post anything that I would care if someone saw. Although I did loose my temper one time and one time only.

Thank you. I greatly appreciate your welcome. Having traveled thousands of miles to shows, swaps, and to visit breeders I can say I enjoy most people that have and enjoy poultry. We all have experiences that may help others with their questions.

Thank you for the compliment on my Cochin. He is not my best bird but typical of the type of bird I try to raise. He was the only one that would pose in his cage when I took pictures. Anyone who has tried to take pictures of their birds know how hard it is to get decent pictures. Usually I feel my hens are my best birds (ie closer to meeting the SOP). I will post a few pics of some of my other birds soon.

Some pictures of my other birds. Hope you enjoy.

Those chicks were 3 of the 30 that I hatched last year. I have some in the brooder and hatching more every Saturday. I set a new batch of eggs every Sat morning. My goal this year is to hatch over 100 Columbians and up to 150 before the end of May. I plan to show some at Indianapolis Croassroads Show in late October. Crossroads will be held at the Indiana State fair grounds and is the National Championship for both sanctioning bodies for poultry the APA & the ABA. That show in 2006 had over 10,000 birds exhibited and at least several thousand more for sale. I told the wife in January that I was going to show at Indy in the fall. Then about 3 weeks later will be the Iowa City show. In 2 weeks there is a show at Avoca iowa .

Those are beautiful birds!
I did not get a flyer for Avoca? We exhibited last year but nothing. Do you have some contact info for Diana Dahir?
Had a very poor hatch last two days, only 3 out of ten. Still have today but the eggs don't look promising. The power outtage we had while in Mason City must have been just long enough.

I have not gotten my eggs from across the pond yet. Getting worried about them.
Schroeder Van.... where's those pics?

This is my information out of the Feb Poultry press: Diana Dahir 1-712-485-2412 [email protected] 32537 Whippoorwill Rd, Mindon, IA 51553 I had emailed them in the past and gotten no response so I show in Peoria instead. Same distance from my home in eastern Iowa. I am going to the Peoria show the same day as the Avoaca show. A nice smaller show run by very nice people. Usually release us by 3pm.
