I got there at about 12:30 SAT and walked thru and left at about 1 : 30 talked to a couple of guys that were from down by Sedalia, Mo and went home, I guess probably my first and last, not quite what I was expecting!!! did see your white orloff, or at least didn't seee any others!

Did you get any of the overall results for the open show? Were there a lot of birds exhibited? I believe Peoria had about 60 exhibiters from 6 states showing 850 birds. Was the man who had Columbians Ken Splett(I probably misspelled his last name)? Was he showing any? If it was I know he has been working with Columbians for a while. What did he want for the Columbian pullet?

art reiber said they had between 800 and 900 entries. didn't seem that many to me but some were out. It was Ken, and he asked 30.00 for the Columbian hen. he had a pair that he would have sold too but I didn't ask how much. I can say it was a nice show, the weather was great and the duck races were fun to watch! not as many for sale birds as last year but prices were up and none went unsold.

Well the other half of the "cochin" eggs are hatching in a friends classroom starting today. Now I am thinking they are mixed as in yard mutts. One of them hatched as a naked neck

She has two that are blue/yellow and two solid yellow and then one solid black as of when I left today. I wasn't expecting show birds out of them but sheesh - if they are mutts then say so....

We only paid $4.12 1/2 cents per dozen for them so I will recoup the money but I kind of wanted one or two to keep formyself.

Well, had our annual City Council meeting tonight for our yearly review that allows us to keep the chickens. Thought for a minute they would not do it but the vote again was 3 to 2 in favor.
The council came off a tongue lashing by some residents, over a road rework project, that is front of their properties and they had not been made aware of it. The city referred to it as "maintenance" and had approved it at the last meeting, but the residents affected knew nothing of it until a realtor called one of them asking if he wanted to reduce the price of his property for sale!

Glad to hear it passed! I guess I never realized that you would have to get it reviewed annually once it passed the first time.

Originally it was set so they would review it for one year, then grant approval at the end of that period if there were no complaints and I provided a fenced area, and not increase the size of the flock. Somehow... they chose to alter the original terms and make it an annual review. It's a "Catch 22" for me. If I complain, or show them the original proof in the letter that was sent of their findings following the first council meeting, I risk rocking the boat and next year they could vote me off the island so to speak. If I kowtow at each annual meeting, humble myself before them, and say "yes massa" then they they say "ok" for another year.
It's a foolish emabarrassing ritual, that goes out over the radio and in the local papers every year. To keep my rights and stay within the law I must embarrass myself to do so. Change can only come from within. I am considering a run for the City Council this fall. It has always been a desire of mine to serve in such a fashion, but not be a victim of its entrapment! That could expose another situation as well, depending on who is elected, I would have to abstain from a vote, if elected, thus risk losing at the same time! Another catch 22! Oh boy.
In addition to all the above, our review has followed some heavy, angry discussion of other issues on the Councils agenda, for the last 2 years! So our review has followed on the heels of dispute and it kind of sours the mood of the room.

Sounds like Spencer. Glad we're out in the county... Congratulations on getting another year. Are you the the only ones that have backyard chickens? I don't think they're allowed in Spencer, but somehow I ended up with a rescue pullet that one of the police officers picked up on Grand.
