Welcome Jerseyridgearts and Twomileranch!!!!

Anybody hitting a swap this weekend? Burlington and Walker are this weekend. I'm sticking closer to home and going to Walker.

Stephanie...
That's a tough one for the fair birds. I have an idea. Next year, would you be able to get several breeding pairs from chicks early in the year. Then come fair time, you can pick the best. Just a thought. Any extras you could sell at a swap and get some of your $ back you have invested.

Does anyone within 45 minutes of Iowa City have any pullets they would like to sell?

I forgot to lock my chickens up ONE TIME at night, and something came and got all my black australorp pullets that I had raised from chicks. That night I even thought, "Did I close the coop? Sure I did, I remember going out there." But apparently from the carnage, I did not close it. I can't believe I didn't hear anything.

I like to go into winter time with a few pullets each year, so I have decent egg laying over winter. I would pay 10-15 a bird for pullets (under a year) of an egg laying breed like Wyandotte, Australorp, barred rock, ect. (I already have a bunch of buff orps.)

I would like to get three pullets, and they will provide a pampered life of free ranging while we are home in a wooded acreage and otherwise be in my coop and covered run.

And I swear I will always double check the coop door!

Welcome to BYC Laura. Sorry to hear about the loss of your girls. Maybe try putting an ad on craigslist in the farm/garden section. There is a swap meet in Walker this Sunday at 8 am, you may want to check that out also.

I have a bunch of pullets for sale. One month to 5 months old.

Ameracanuas blue egg layers.

Ameracanua Maran cross olive egg layers.

I work in Iowa City and live 35 minutes south.

flashpoint farms -- the chickens always molt this time of year, its just our stupid luck... when the temps go up, the feathers go off.... if I had more to choose from, I'd have more feathers flying

everyone ok?? that was one strong storm that moved thru the area this morning. we had pea sized hail, strong winds and a ton of rain.

Lots and lots of lightening here.... waiting for the storm to pass. The neighbor's yard is starting to flood. Hope everyone is alright.

I just now got my internet back. Lightening struck out barn roof, didn't cause a fire. There's a huge hole in the roof and shingles blown 60 feet from the barn into our garden.

Thanks, Steph. We have good insurance, so they'll take care of it. The fuses in the fuse box were blown out. I'm shocked there was no fire, and relieved. Someone was watching out for us!

My favorite saddle was in that barn, so glad it's ok.

We had a bid done on the roof yesterday. $1000. That's not with the electrical that needs to be redone though.

Fireworks are at the North Linn High school tonight. Anybody going?
