Chanin, and myself will be at the Burlington swap. PM me your phone number. I will keep an eye out for you for what you are looking for and try to get you something.
I have a beat up old chicken tractor I can sell you for $10. Not the most secure, but you could put your packing peanuts in there.
Also, get a bag of Soybean meal and supplement your chicks with that. It will help them grow with the extra protien.
I am just north of la porte city, and will be taking the packing peanuts to walker if husbands friend doesn't get them by tomorrow.
I've added sweet feed for horses to their diet and started giving scrambled eggs, with garlic and the egg shells to them - garlic to worm them, eggshells for more calcium, calories and protein yesterday
we don't need anything fancy or exotic although it would be nice - son has a thing for bringing strange to fair. We bought Egyptian Fayoumi for our white egg layers, and then Welsummers for the brown eggers -but guess that will have to be just our joys. the hatchery messed up our date that also messed up the young bantam class - which he isn't going to enter this year unless they do some serious feather growing, and our breeding pair under a year - he wanted millie fleur d'uccles - they sent dutch millie fleurs which isn't even a recognized color
what we need are
trio of white egg layers over 20 wks -- ours will be 16 wks at fair time
trio of brown egg layers over 20 wks -- ours will be 16 wks at fair time
1 pair of bantams over 1 year --the rooster killed his hen and we got rid of him - very aggressive bird
Oh rats I don't think I have anything. I had mottled cochin bantams for sale once but they didn't sell. I have since trimmed their backsides and I'm trying to get blue mottled cochins.
I don't know what I will have at the swap. I'm sure I will have one male baby pygmy. The chicks I bring will most likely be roosters. I do have ducks but I don't want to mess with having them tested so they might just stay home. I have a shetland gander but I won't get what I want out of him at Burlington. My dh is going on a canoe trip so I'm having to go through all the animals myself. I really just want to take our van. I'll hopefully be in a gold van with a red farmall tractor on the antenna.
had an awesome morning drive in the rain today....
picked up a pair of cuddly black silkies from Flash Point Farms. What a cool visit It was so worth the drive to see your wonderful birds and dogs, thanks for showing me around
the quail are on the computer desk, they are the babies now, and going to be the most spoiled birds ever, well next to the silkies, we spent an hour sitting on the lawn holding them and petting them. they are in a pen with two black frizzled turken hens and all are getting along great.
I think for fair, we are going to fatten up the brown egg layers we have and take whats ready when the time comes. We are still gonna look for white eggers... but between the burlington and walker swap - its gonna be fine
My family should no longer be allowed to go to swap meets. lol My son came home with a pot belly pig and my daughter got the kitten she was begging for. I did get rid of a lot of cockeral chicks. So that was the good note. Burlington was so packed with stuff. I didn't even get to see it all.
good thing you weren't in walker --- they were giving away cute barn cats of all colors
not much else, I was able to sell half of what I brought, there were some over priced rabbits and then some good stuff - guineas, blue slate turkeys and pekin ducklins all really cheap
didn't bring home anything new - but I think that's a good thing
Hey,
I was on the lookout for a good breeding pair. The only ones I saw that I would take a chance on were 4 pair of black polish with white top hats. The 2 good ones were already sold. The other 2 pair were $40. Yep, I walked on.
